The English Deaf Golf Association (EDGA) is the National organisation for the Deaf, Deafened, Hard of Hearing and Hearing Impaired golfers, and this encompasses a wide range of communication methods from British Sign Language (BSL) to lip-reading and speech.
The strategic aims of the EDGA are as follows:
1) Encourage more deaf golfers
2) Support the deaf golfers
3) Support the Regions
4) Support the Societies
5) Provisions of competitions to allow Deaf people to compete in a social environment
6) To oversee the growth of the Ladies Section
7) All playing handicaps are welcomed
The EDGA was formed originally for the provisions of competitions for deaf golfers at both local and regional levels and due to the developement of the organistation, it now includes national events. The EDGA also organises a team to compete against other countries in the World Deaf Golf Championships held every four years organised by the World Deaf Golf Federation (WDGF). The England Team also competes in the Four Nations cup against Ireland, Wales and Scotland and this is held bi-annually in between the World Deaf Golf Championships.
The EDGA is affiliated to the World Deaf Golf Federation and also with UK Deaf Sport. The EDGA has a continued partnership with the English Golf Union.
